We all know the song flashing lights by Kanye West off his 2007 top selling album, Graduation, and as catchy as that song may be, no one likes flashing lights on their car’s dashboard.
So, we’re here to break it down on what those warning lights on your dashboard mean and what you can do to fix the problem.
Oil Pressure Warning
This light comes on when there is low pressure detected. When this happens, the most common cause is that your oil level is too low. When your oil’s pressure is low, this prevents the oil from going through the narrow passages to provide sufficient lubrication. A lack of lubrication can cause your engine to seize up or cause damage way beyond repair.
The Battery Light
This light indicates that your car battery’s voltage is below average. This is typically a sign that something with your vehicle’s charging system is not working correctly. You’ll want to get this checked out before you find yourself with a car that doesn’t start!
Windshield Washer Fluid
As spring approaches, you’ll want to make sure that you have a good pair of wiper blades and plenty of windshield washer fluid. This is an easy fix, and all you’ll need to do is purchase some more washer fluid and get it refilled to ensure you have the best visibility!
Tire Pressure Monitoring
With the dramatic changes in temperature from winter to spring, this light becomes more common. If there is a big change in temperature, this can greatly affect your tire pressure, so fill up your tires as soon as this light comes on!
Check Engine Light
Oh, the dreaded check engine light. Your check engine light is also known as your emissions control light and sometimes it can be hard to know what’s wrong when this light comes on. The best thing you can do when your check engine light comes on is to get it checked out immediately. The sooner you get it checked, the less chance of damage and further repairs.
If you notice any of these lights on your dash, be sure to bring your vehicle into Jack’s Brake & Alignment to have an engine code scan or diagnostics performed. Let’s get you back on the road again!
