Jack's Brake & Alignment To Partner With Gilda's Club Quad Cities For Eighth Consecutive Year-In-A-Row Through Program Jack's Brakes For Cancer

Join us as we partner with Gilda's Club Quad Cities to make our eighth annual contribution to support individuals and families impacted by cancer in the Quad Cities community.

DAVENPORT, IOWA- Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 1:00 p.m. at the Gilda's Club Quad Cities River Drive clubhouse, leaders from the organization will meet with Jack's Brake & Alignment's team to be awarded a donation of over $1,000. The donation was made possible by the program Jack's Brakes for Cancer. Every year, during the month of October, Jack's Brake & Alignment takes 10% of all brake jobs and donates this to Gilda's Club Quad Cities.

Terry Weipert, owner of Jack's Brake & Alignment, created the program back in 2012 as a way to give back to the community and Jack's loyal customers who have also in some way been affected by cancer.

"We're always attentive to where we can make a difference within our community, and we felt that almost everyone has a connection to someone who has been affected by cancer. Now more than ever, we need to come together and support one another as best we can," said Weipert.

Gilda's Club Quad Cities was founded in 1998 and has grown in program offerings and members. Each year the club serves more than 1,000 members impacted by cancer across 13 counties in Iowa and Illinois.

Gilda's Club is also for caregivers and loved ones who support the person with the diagnosis. The Club allows members to participate in a variety of programs including support groups, healthy-lifestyle activities, educational programs and more. However, Tuesday's event will be nearing one of the last events to take place during the 2020 calendar year at the River Drive location.

Gilda's Club recently announced a partnership with Genesis Health System and UnityPoint Health-Trinity hospital systems, which will give members on both sides of the river locations in Iowa and Illinois. The final date still has not been determined, but is expected in 2021.

Jack's Brake & Alignment is proud to partake in Jack's Brakes for Cancer for the eighth year in a row now.

"Thank you to all of our loyal customers who made it possible for us to be able to donate over $1,000 to Gilda's Club Quad Cities," said Weipert.

Davenport Business, Jack's Brake & Alignment, Warns Customers About Online Scams and How You Can Protect Yourself This Holiday Season

DAVENPORT, Iowa- This week, Jack's Brake & Alignment, a complete automotive repair shop, warned customers and Facebook followers of a fake Facebook profile that was seen messaging those who had entered Jack's Thanksgiving giveaway, posing as the official Jack's Brake & Alignment account.
The fake profile messaged multiple individuals who had entered the contest, promising them that they had won and all they needed to do was click on a link and enter in their credit card information.
Shortly after the team at Jack's Brake & Alignment noticed the fake profile, Jack's team acted and messaged every account that was seen to be messaging with the fake account.
Jack's also posted a Facebook status to warn others about the hackers, which some of Jack's followers shared on their personal Facebook pages as well.
This year, Jack's Brake & Alignment wants to remind the community to be watchful when it comes to contests and giveaways, especially during the holidays when some are just looking for a little extra help to get by.
"It was sad seeing that someone would go as far to make a fake account and pose as us to try and steal credit card information from our friends, family and customers. The holidays are stressful enough and most of us are just trying to get by and provide a decent meal for our families. We want to make sure that those within our community remember to be watchful, especially this time of year when some of us can become more vulnerable," said Jack's Brake & Alignment spokesperson.
Here are some Dos and Don'ts you should practice this upcoming holiday season when it comes to holiday scams, giveaways, and how to spot a fake account.
1.Do- check your facts. If a business says that they are going to do a Facebook Live for example to announce winners, but you receive a message out of the blue, consider this a red flag.
2.Don't- click on any strange links. If you get sent a link that seems suspicious, don't click on it. And now that we're talking about it, don't ever click on any random links. Most times for something as simple as a Facebook FREE giveaway, no business will ever ask you to click on additional links.
3.Do- call the business's direct phone line for verification. If you receive a message that you've won a contest, it's a good idea to call the reputable business's phone number for verification.
4.Don't- ever share any of your personal information, especially banking and credit card information. If you've entered a FREE giveaway, there's no reason that a legitimate business would be asking for your banking information.
5.Do- look for slight differences in profile names. Profiles on social media accounts like Facebook and Instagram cannot have the same name, so even if a fake profile has stolen your exact profile picture and cover photo, they can't have the same name. Fake accounts will often change very minor things in the title of their profile name such as swapping an & sign for a dash (-) or leaving off an (s). EX: Brake vs Brakes
6.Do- report fake profiles and share useful information across Facebook. When you report a fake profile, you're helping notify Facebook's team that a user is violating the platforms terms of use. The more people that report a fake or harmful profile, the greater chance that profile has of being taken down. If you don't mind sharing important information on your own feed, you can also help spread important information that can hopefully steer others away from misleading information as well.
These are just a few simple Dos and Don'ts to try and follow this time of year but following these Dos and Don'ts could help you stay safe and avoid scams this holiday season.
"We're so thankful that our 9th Thanksgiving giveaway with Hy-Vee on Rockingham Rd still turned out successfully. This year we were able to give away 10 turkeys and 10 hams to those who had entered our drawing on Facebook. Even just that small amount made such a difference to the individuals who had their names drawn and we're glad that we were able to continue this tradition. We hope everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving!"

About Jack's Brake & Alignment
Jack's Brake & Alignment is a complete automotive repair shop with two locations in Davenport, Iowa. Jack's Brake & Alignment has been in business since 1965. Jack's can work on everything from foreign and domestic cars to RVs, motorhomes and buses. At Jack's River Drive location, we also have two macaws named Alex and Ajax- they're our mascots!

Went in for an oil change and inspection and the service was wonderful. Took about 1 hours on a day they seemed to be short handed, so I'm sure it would be faster normally. Joe is great and easy to talk to. Explained everything really clearly and thoroughly. Will definitely be going back!

Jack's is open on Saturday! Took my Jeep in for brake repair. They found my water pump was going out also. Saved me some money. Maybe even my vehicle. Great experience.
