Winter’s already a cold hearted you know what, and with the recent negative temps we’ve been experiencing, it hasn’t made things any better. Which is why there’s just some things you don’t want to ever be without living in Iowa (or Illinois).
So with that being said, here’s what we totally, absolutely, wholeheartedly recommend you keep in your car so that you can stay one step ahead and avoid the headache of the Midwest’s cold weather conditions.
Ice scrapers and snow brushes
This one’s pretty obvious, but if you don’t have an ice scraper or snow brush in your car, please get one of these! Amazon sells them for super cheap and they’re good quality. Ice scrapers are also great if you’re in a rush and don’t have time to let your car’s windshield defrost. Just use a little bit of elbow grease and scrape that ice right off.
And under Iowa state law, you can even be fined for not cleaning your windshield! Bet you didn’t know that one. So, make sure you’re able to stay on the right side of the road, and the law by utilizing your ice scraper this winter.
Frostguard Windshield Cover
Now this is something we wish we knew about a longggg time ago! If scraping ice off your windshield doesn’t sound like a blast, you need the Frostguard Windshield cover.
It’s also great for that person that always seems to be running late. This nifty device will save you time and energy by eliminating the hassle of scraping ice off your windshield in subzero temps.
Oh, and the best part is that it comes in several different colors. It’s okay, there’s no shame, we know you’re extra and that’s perfectly okay with us! 👑
Battery jumper cables
It’s never fun being stranded with a dead battery, so make sure you store some battery jumper cables in your car. But, if you happen to goof up and forget yours at home, don’t worry, JBA Towing offers roadside assistance for jumps starts and other services like towing, lock-outs, tire changes and more. Just call JBA to save the day!
Car Cozy Heated Blanket
A heated blanket for your car? Say less. The Car Cozy 12-Volt heated blanket is available on Amazon and it’s perfect for road trips or just storing in your car for a snowy day.
The blanket’s even big enough for two people and it plugs directly into your car’s charger port!
If you’re a crazy cat lady like our beloved Debbie at Jacks River Drive, you probably have plenty of kitty litter, but if you’re not Debbie, you may want to consider storing some in your car!
Believe it or not, kitty litter’s great for getting unstuck in the snow! You’ll want to spread the litter underneath the tires with little to no traction to give them grip so that you’re able to get unstuck. It’s just science. Trust us.
So if you live in Iowa (or Illinois) during the winter, these are just simply some of the essentials we suggest you keep in your car. And remember, besides keeping a few of these things in your car, be sure to check your fluids, check your brakes, keep up with routine maintenance, and bundle up!
If you need help with any of the above, come see us at Jack’s Brake & Alignment! We have two convenient locations in Davenport, Iowa that specialize in complete automotive repair. And we’ve got Prices That Don’t BRAKE The Bank!
We’ll see you soon, and stay warm!
